Leisure Care was founded by Chuck and Karen Lytle in 1976. At this time, there were very few options for older adults looking for a residence that provided the services they desired. The vision of the Lytle’s was to establish a company that would make a difference in the lives of seniors and would continue for generations to come.

Today, nearly 30 years later, Leisure Care is one of the nation’s largest privately-held retirement and assisted living companies with an outstanding reputation for providing quality, innovative senior services.

From the beginning, the Lytle’s were determined to maintain Leisure Care as a privately-owned business. This desire was motivated not only by personal goals, but also from the belief that a private company would allow the opportunity to make decisions for the best interest of customers versus the desires of shareholders.

In April 2003, the Lytle’s sold Leisure Care to long-time CEO and trusted friend, Dan Madsen. Mr. Madsen continues to run the company as a sole proprietorship, holding true to the founding principles. Dan has been an employee of Leisure Care since 1988 and has led the company as President and CEO since 1998. His knowledge and expertise of the senior living industry coupled with his commitment to Leisure Care made him the natural choice to succeed as the owner of the company. Madsen is a strong advocate for premium choices and first class accommodations for seniors, which is the focus for all Leisure Care communities.

Part of what makes Leisure Care unique is the pioneering spirit that has continued through the decades. Leisure Care was one of the first companies to offer assisted living services and was the leader in the concept of restaurant-style dining. Through the leadership of Dan Madsen and the senior management team, Leisure Care residents and employees can look forward to the introduction of many more innovative programs and services.
