Bella Villaggio Adapts Activities for Social Distancing

Like most organizations, Bella Villaggio senior living in Palm Desert, CA has had to adapt and overcome everyday routines to meet rapidly changing health protocols. Knowing that healthy residents are happy residents, our creative staff has changed activities to keep residents socially distant while still remaining physically active. Learn more about our PrimeFit program that has been specifically adapted to meet new health protocols and a new virtual reality program that allows residents to travel while staying at home.

Movement is Medicine at Bella Villaggio

Staying physically active is crucial to overall health and lowering stress levels. That’s why Bella Villaggio’s PrimeFit instructor Fred De Stefano and our Program Supervisor, Stephanie Stallings, are working together to lead small group fitness classes with appropriate protective equipment and social distancing.

These daily exercise classes are called “Movement is Medicine” and we have seen a significant difference in the mental, physical, and emotional well-being of all participants!

Virtual Reality Brings New and Familiar Experiences to Bella Villaggio Residents

Additionally, we have partnered with Rendever to provide virtual reality experiences to residents in both assisted living and memory care. Studies have shown that virtual reality can be helpful for seniors coping with cognitive and physical impairments, giving them a way to express themselves and experience the outside world, ultimately reducing the social isolation of seniors.

Through virtual reality technology, our residents are able to visit their childhood home, see the pyramids in Egypt, swim with dolphins, or watch puppies play. Now, more than ever, it is crucial for residents to see beyond stay-at-home orders and have new experiences in their lives.
