Residents at Russellville Park come from diverse backgrounds with unique interests and experiences, bringing life and vibrancy to our senior living community. One resident, Diane Thramer, is a talented watercolor artist who recently displayed a new series on people with disabilities.

Diane Thramer, artist and resident at Russellville Park, was inspired to become an artist by her parents and her teachers. Her father was a painter and a cartoonist, her mother, added artistic touches to their home and clothing, and her teachers encouraged her to express herself through art. Throughout her adult life, she took art classes in various mediums, including printmaking, oil painting, and pen and ink drawings. Watercolor became her medium of choice in 1992, and her subjects range from landscape, seascape, and buildings to florals, animals, and people. She hopes that she gives gifts of joy, optimism, and inspiration for creativity through her work.

She calls her newest series “Alter-Abled and Beautiful.”

“As I was isolated in my apartment in 2020, I needed a project on which to focus my attention and energy. A friend, Ken Neubeck, who is a social activist and amputee, suggested painting people with disabilities who are often overlooked as subjects for fine art. Having no models in isolation I searched the internet for reference photos. The six untitled paintings are a result. Ken is the model for the seventh painting. Nick Kaasa, the grandson of a life long friend, Shirley Kaasa, is the eighth.” – Diane Thramer, artist
