At Fairwinds – Spokane we love giving back to our local community and are always seeking ways to make a positive impact on the lives of those around us. Residents and staff at Fairwinds – Spokane recently hosted a series of events to benefit the Vanessa Behan Crisis Nursery, a local organization that provides safe shelter for children in crisis situations. Benefitting the Vanessa Behan Crisis Nursery
This year, Fairwinds – Spokane independent living and assisted living residents had the opportunity to partner with the Vanessa Behan Crisis Nursery. The Vanessa Behan Crisis Nursery provides immediate refuge for children and strives to support and strengthen families. Named after a local child who died from abuse, the Crisis Nursery provides a variety of services including,
- 24-hour child care for infants and children under the age of 7
- Parent education
- Crisis counseling for parents
- Referrals to other community agencies
A Spirit of Philanthropy at Fairwinds – Spokane
We hosted three events to benefit the Vanessa Behan Crisis Nursery. First, all proceeds from our annual Charity Bingo will be donated to the Crisis Nursery. Second, our annual Christmas Tree of Elegance auction will also benefit the organization. Running from December 1 – December 21, different departments in our community were given the opportunity to decorate a 4-foot Christmas tree for display. Working together, each department decorated their tree and residents and guests will have the opportunity to bid on and win one of the trees.
In addition to Charity Bingo and the Christmas Tree of Elegance events, several of our employees volunteered at SantaExpress on December 6, where proceeds from the store will benefit the Vanessa Behan Crisis Nursery. Santa Express is a holiday retail store where local children can come and shop for their family. The store is only open for children between the ages of 4 and 12 and gift prices range from $0.50 to $8.00. We had 7 employees volunteer as “elves” for the event.
“Fairwinds employees really enjoyed being “elves” for the night and it was great to work with some children in our community. We were told by the staff at Santa Express that the night we volunteered was one of the busiest nights of the season and we helped raise a significant amount of money for the Vanessa Behan Crisis Nursery!” – Jamie Bravato, General Manager at Fairwinds – Spokane
